STARBUCKS

Have you ever wondered why there are only round tables in the Starbucks?

We all visit Starbucks once in a while. Many memories are being made or many memories are being revived over a cup of coffee at the Starbucks. While sipping a cup of coffee on the round table, we all strike a conversation sometimes lasting from few minutes to few hours. But has anyone wondered why all the Starbucks around the world have round tables. Instead they could have square tables or rectangular ones or any other tables of any geometric shape. But that is not the case. All the Starbucks around the world have the tables that are only of circular shape. So let us examine the probable reasons for having such round table in one of the world’s most famous beverage outlets: -

§     A round table is less formal, has no 'empty' seats, and the lack of right-angle edges makes the person seated at the table feel less isolated.

§     While sitting on a round table it is easier for us to interact with our coffee table partners without much movement of our body.

§     Round tables of Starbucks are more welcoming than those with the square edges because people look less alone while seating at a round table.

§     If the customers are more comfortable while sitting and drinking coffee, they will buy more of the beverage and this will help in increasing the revenue of the company.

So basically the idea of having a round table is both psychological as well as business oriented one. Till date such business idea and innovation has generated dividend for Starbucks in its business operations. What if such business idea is implemented in Indian small resturants and tea stalls? Will such idea succeed ? And will it be as successful as Starbucks?
