BOGIBEEL BRIDGE: A BRIDGE OF THE FUTURE
Bogibeel Bridge is one of the largest bridge ever
constructed in India. It is built over the Brahmaputra river and connects the
Dhemaji district and Dibrugarh district located in the north eastern state of
India, Assam. It is a rail cum road bridge with a length of 4.98 kilometers. It
is Asia’s second longest rail cum road bridge. It was inaugurated on 25th
of December,2018 by the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
It is the 4th rail road bridge
constructed over the Brahmaputra river. This bridge was constructed by the
Hindustan Construction Company. The foundation of this bridge was laid in January
1997, by the then Indian Prime Minister H.D. Deve.Gowda the construction of the
bridge was inaugurated by then Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in
2002.
The bridge is located 20 km from the Assam and
Arunachal Pradesh border. It is expected to connect around 5 million people in
the region. The bridge will also help in facilating the movement of the troops
to the Arunachal Pradesh and the China border. The bridge can withstand
earthquakes of about 7 richter scale. It was built with an estimated cost of
around Rs 5000 crore. This bridge will certainly boost the infrastructure of
the north east India.
